Dorial Green-Beckham traded to Philadelphia

The Titans moved Dorial Green-Beckham after just one season with the team.

The Philadelphia Eagles and Tennessee Titans both had needs, and theoretically, both of those needs were satisfied by this morning’s trade that sent wide receiver Dorial Green-Beckham from Tennessee to Philadelphia for offensive lineman Dennis Kelly.

The Eagles need was at the wide receiver position.  Despite a fair number of high draft picks (Jordan Matthews – 2, Nelson Agholor – 1, and Josh Huff – 3), the team isn’t getting much production from the position.

Agholor specifically has been a disappointment for the team thus far.  The Eagles made him their first round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, only to watch those high expectations seemingly turn into regret as the receiver caught just 23 balls in 13 games as a rookie.  If that wasn’t bad enough, he put himself into a bad position at a gentleman’s club following an OTA this spring.

The Titans had a need to send players a message that no is promised anything.  The team’s GM Jon Robinson said he wanted a roster full of uncomfortable players who were not sure about their job security.  Trading away a high second-round pick from last year because of a questionable work ethic will accomplish that.

For Gree-Beckham, this is a chance to start anew in Philadelphia and try to live up to the immense potential he entered the league with.  Unlike Tennessee, which has an enviable glut of wide receivers, the cabinet is bare at the wide receiver position in Philadelphia when you get past the inconsistent Matthews.

In the last decade, only a few players have entered the NFL with the type of size/speed/talent combination that DGB possesses.  In Philly, he’ll have a chance to earn all the opportunities he wants.

What he does with them will determine how long he plays in this league.
