It has been a busy trade deadline day in the NBA.  Former seventh overall pick of the Denver Nuggets, Emmanuel Mudiay was traded today in a three-way deal involving the Nuggets, Dallas Mavericks and New York Knicks.  In addition, the Knicks and Nuggets swapped 2nd round picks in the 2018 draft according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

The Knicks will receive Mudiay, a once very promising prospect who seem to fall out of favour in Denver with less and less minutes given to him since his rookie season.  He has not started a game this season, after starting 107 of his first 123 games in Denver.  Mudiay’s field goal percentage has raised every season, although it still sits around the 40% mark, currently at .401.

The Dallas Mavericks received Doug McDermott from the Knicks, while Devin Harris was moved to Denver.

This seemed like mostly a shakeup amongst young, underachieving players.  McDermott was picked deepest in the draft at just 11th overall, while Mudiay was picked seventh.  Harris on the other hand, was originally a fourth overall pick in 2004, but has since become a smooth shooting sixth man who is a one-time all-star.  Harris is be best known for being in two majorly historical trades.  The first being on the night of the draft along with Christian Laettner and Jerry Stackhouse for Antwan Jamison.  The second trade was to the Nets with many other parts for Jason Kidd.

McDermott was a promising college level player but has since been relegated to bench.  Playing little defense, McDermott has become known more as a sharpshooter than anything else.  The Knicks signed him in the offseason, as they had little shooting ability entering 2018.

Essentially, the Mavericks receive a young sharpshooter, the Knicks get a young slasher, while the Nuggets get an experienced guard looking to make a push into the playoffs.  Lastly the Knicks swapped their 2nd round pick via Clippers for the Nuggets 2nd round pick via Trailblazers.

The NBA trade deadline has been very good for fans thus far, with major trades coming all day long.
