Evan Turner leaves Boston for Portland

In Boston, Turner became one of the league’s most valuable sixth men.

It would appear that after they were turned down by Chandler Parsons, the Portland Trailblazers turned their attention to free agent Evan Turner.

This time, they got their man.

The Trailblazers and Turner agreed on a four-year, $70 million contract.

A one-time #2 overall pick in the draft, Turner played 3 1/2 forgettable seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers before being traded to the Indiana Pacers at the trade deadline in 2014.  After playing half a season with the Pacers, Turner signed a 2-year, $6.7M contract with the Boston Celtics.

Turner looked more comfortable in Boston, over two seasons he averaged right around 10 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and a steal a game for the Celtics.

Turner, now 27-years-old, settled into a reserve role for the team this season and finished fifth in NBA Sixth Man of the Year voting.

Always known as a weak outside shooter, Turner went on to shoot 52.4 percent from long range over the final two months of the season.

It seems like given his need for the having the ball in his hands, Turner may not be as good a fit for the team as Chandler Parsons would have been, but he does give Portland another player to help with ball-handling and rebounding duties.

Turner posted a message to Celtics fans on Instagram late Friday afternoon.
