Fantasy Beasts: What do you select? The legend or the prodigy…

With most fantasy drafts less than two months away, if you have a top 3 pick, you may have one hell of a conundrum on your hands. Whiffing on our first round pick could definitely put you behind the eight ball. Some choices are no-brainers, however, others may be very difficult. When you’re staring down two sure fire studs, and both of them are cued up ready to go. Who do you select?

Closing Argument

The “Legend” Adrian Peterson
Adrian Peterson has been a fantasy football staple at running back since entering the NFL. With all due respect to LT, Peterson is arguably the best fantasy running back ever. He has rushed for over a 1,000 yards 7 out of 9 seasons, and rushed for more than 10 touchdowns 8 out of 9 years of his pro career. After returning from a fifteen game suspension, he regained his strangle hold as NFL’s and fantasy football’s top running back. AP rushed for more than 1,400 with 11 touchdowns. In fantasy football language, he accumulated over 200 points.

Closing Argument

The “Prodigy” Todd Gurley
Todd Gurley is a 6-1 227 anomaly. The NFL hasn’t seen a running back this big, this strong, and this fast since, guess who? You’re right, Adrian Peterson. Gurley entered his rookie season fresh off a torn acl. The experts predicted Gurley to have an ok rookie year, after being eased into the running back fold. They were spot on with the easing into action potion, however, an ok rookie year, they could not have been more wrong. Gurley was unleashed on the NFL in the Rams 5th game of the season. In only 12 starts he rushed for more than 1,100 with 10 touchdowns. In fantasy football language, he accumulated over 170 points.

Verdict

Peterson and Gurley are both top 5 fantasy selections. You’ll be very fortunate to have either player. If you’re participating in a non-keeper league Peterson is still your guy. He is older and nearing the end of his career. However, after seeing Peterson this past year he’s showing no signs of slowing down. AP’s in a better offensive situation with a veteran quarterback, along with an abundance of offensive weapons. With that being said, if you’re in a keeper league, draft Gurley. Gurley has the potential to be what Peterson has been for the past nine seasons. Grabbing him while he’s young will ensure you a Fantasy Beast for years to come.
