Could Hamidou Diallo enter the 2017 NBA Draft?
Last year, Thon Maker went directly from high school to the NBA Draft. Could we see Hamidou Diallo do the same this season?
The highly rated class of 2017 wing actually graduated from his high school, Putnam (Conn.) Science Academy last year. Now he’s doing a post-graduate season at PSA.
Since players eligibility is tied to their initial high school class, Diallo is now far enough removed that he would be eligible to enter the 2017 NBA Draft if he wanted to — and he’s considering it.
Diallo currently ranks as the top shooting guard in the 2017 class and a top-10 player overall. It would be foolish of him to not consider all his options.
“It’s definitely something that I’m going to look into,” Diallo said when asked about the draft. “It’s my ultimate goal and I don’t feel like it would hurt me looking into. But as of now I want to go to college.”
A 6-5 ultra-athletic guard from New York, Diallo is a highlight reel on the break. He may be the most athletic player in the 2017 class. This is a tough, hard-working athlete who takes defense seriously.
Right now his strengths are his athleticism, defense and motor and his weaknesses are lack of deep range and a somewhat shaky handle.
Either way, this is a situation to keep an eye on over the coming months.
