Heat sign Wayne Ellington and James Johnson

The Miami Heat have signed veterans Wayne Ellington and James Johnson

In an attempt to begin to fill out the roster following a number of free agent losses, the Miami Heat have agreed to terms with guard Wayne Ellington and forward James Johnson.

Ellington, a 28-year-old, signed a two-year, $12 million deal.  The 6-4 shooting guard averaged 7.7 points and 2.3 rebounds in 21.3 minutes a night for the Brooklyn Nets last year.  While he shot a respectable 35% from the outside, his overall field goal percentage dropped to a career-low 38%.  Miami becomes the 8th team Ellington has played for.

Johnson, a 29-year-old, signed a one-year, $4 million deal.  The 6-9 power forward averaged 5.0 points and 2.2 rebounds in 16.2 minutes a night for the Toronto Raptors last season.

Previously, the Heat signed forward Derrick Williams to a free agent deal.

The Heat have until 11:59 tonight to decide whether or not to match the four-year, $50 million offer sheet that restricted free agent Tyler Johnson signed with the Nets.

The team is also hoping to bring back veterans Udonis Haslem and Beno Udrih.
