Hue Jackson looks to be jumping into a lake.
Wednesday afternoon Hue Jackson confirmed that he will live up to his promise to swim in Lake Erie if the Browns finished at 1-15 or worse this season. Hue made that guarantee at the end of the 2016 season when in response to what was the start of a would-be question to if the Browns were 1-15 in back-to-back years, he interrupted and said “No. I’ll be swimming in that lake over there somewhere. That’s not happening.”
Here is the original exchange.
Hue told reporters he hopes a lot of people will come out for his swim as it will benefit the Hue Jackson Foundation which is dedicated to “supporting non-profit organizations that embolden and offer hope to victims of sexual exploitation and coercion.”
If you’re thinking, “Wow, isn’t that going to be cold.” you would be correct. As of his proclamation, the Lake Erie water temperature was 36 degrees and the warmest temperature Cleveland will see over the next 7 days is 20 degrees on Friday.
As a Browns fan, all I can say is “Damn you, Hue, I was just starting to accept my utter hatred of you.” I really do respect this move from him. He made a promise and he is keeping it. And in a city built by blue-collar workers, a man’s word still means a lot here. I stand by the opinion that he has lost the locker room and he desperately needs to give up his play-calling duties, and ultimately should be fired no matter what. But put this in the “pro” column for me. With a Perfect Season Parade on the horizon and Hue kicking around in the lake in the background, maybe this is just what the Browns need to break their curse. Who knows, could it be the reverse Billy Goat in some way, shape, or form?
I can just hear the start of the Browns finally winning a Super Bowl 30 for 30 now: “What if I told you that all a drowning franchise needed, was its head coach to start swimming?”
