Measurables: 6’7”, 7’0” wingspan, 215 lbs, 22.7 years old
Strengths
- Phenomenal efficiency at EWU – 32.0 PER, 68.9 TS%
- 83% FT – phenomenal number, upside for jumper?
- 6 FTA/40, gets to line a lot
- Flashes of great versatility – 15.9 TRB%, 15.4 AST%, 8.8 BLK%
- Likely still improving – only 1 season of high level basketball
- Incredible 2 point efficiency – 72% at rim, 52% outside rim
- Big time athlete, extremely fast in open floor
- Phenomenally explosive, great weakside shot blocker
- Plays with great energy/passion
Weaknesses
- Will by 23 by start of next season
- Slightly undersized at PF given thin frame/6’7” height
- Bad turnover issues – 20.3 TOV%
- Jumper mechanics very rudimentary at this point, takes a lot of time to get ball out
- Struggled a lot on defense against higher-caliber opponents – fouled out 7 times
- Very little skill in offensive game – mostly dunk/lob threat
- How will game translate against higher competition level? – 10 pts/fouled out against Colorado, 10 pts/fouled out against Texas
- 10 games with 5+ turnovers – will be offensive liability outside of athleticism
- Needs to add strength to 215 lb frame
Overall
- Wiley is an explosive athlete who can fly all over the floor. He made some big time plays this season at Eastern Washington and impressed at the Portsmouth Invitational, but it’s hard to project much of his game to the NBA level. He’s a bit reminiscent of Jeremy Evans as a shot blocker and athlete who doesn’t offer much else to a team. But if Wiley can improve his shooting mechanics and add some skill to the rest of his offensive game, maybe he becomes a player.
