Measurables: 6’7, 6’10” wingspan, 218 lbs, 23.7 years old
Strengths
- Solid rebounder (12.3 TRB% for career)
- Strong player
- Solid athlete, gets up in transition
- Explosive around the rim, good finishing through traffic and has track record of doing so in ACC play
- Nice post up wing game
- Good defender against 3s and 4s, moves feet well
- Has a clear cut role as a small-ball 4
- Nice instincts as a secondary rim protector
- Has a clear cut NBA role, doesn’t need to be primary scorer
- Very good off-ball cutter
Weaknesses
- 3 point shooting regressed heavily from junior to senior seasons (44% to 26%)
- Low upside player at almost 24 already
- Not clear that he can be a good shooter – 72% FT
- Lack of consistent jumpshot form
- Doesn’t beat guys off the dribble
- Defensive IQ, engagement level will have to improve to defend wings
- Lacks elite lateral quickness
- Gives up when beat off dribble
Overall
- Blossomgame would be more attractive as a stretch 4 role player prospect if his jumper showed up more and he weren’t already 23. It’s a shame he shot 3 balls as poorly as he did during his senior year because he’d be an infinitely more interesting prospect if he looked like he had a promising 3 ball. Still, there are guys like Trevor Ariza who have comparable skill sets to Blossomgame that didn’t shoot the 3 well in college. The difference with Blossomgame and Ariza is 4 years of age with when they came out – that’s the thing with Blossomgame. He’s strictly a second round prospect at this point because he doesn’t have a clear cut NBA role unless he’s shooting the 3.
