Jeremy Lin's Season Over after Ruptured Achilles Tendon

After suffering an injury last night, the Nets will be without Jeremy Lin for the remainder of the season.

One game into the season and the Nets have lost one of the key members to their team. Jeremy Lin left the game in the fourth quarter against the Pacers in tears, fearing the worst news was coming. This morning after undergoing further evaluations, it was found that he suffered a Ruptured Achilles Tendon to his right knee and will likely miss the remainder of the 2017-2018 season.

This is a crushing blow to the Nets as they were looking like a team that would be improving on their horrendous 2016-2017 season. The guard position is the deepest of their team this year, so it might not be too much to ask to replace Lin, but still isn’t going to be an easy task. The most likely scenario that will play out will be the activation of Isaiah Whitehead, who was a healthy scratch for the opener. Along with that the Nets could opt to move D’Angelo Russell to the 1 and insert Allen Crabbe to the starting lineup, or they can keep Crabbe as their 6th man and make Spencer Dinwiddie their starting PG.

Both of those options are clearly going to be a downgrade for the Nets, but the silver lining to this injury is it gives ample opportunities to the young core of the Nets to continue their development moving forward. Jeremy Lin will have a long and grueling rehab ahead of him, but getting him ready for the start of next season will be his top priority. With the continued development of the Nets core, he can look to rejoin a team that will look to take the next step in their complete rebuild.

The key for Jeremy Lin from here on out, heading towards his return, is to be able to get his body into the best possible shape. So far his Nets tenure has been mired with injury after injury, although the previous ones were not as major, a clean bill of health will go a long way for the future of Jeremy Lin.
