Jimmy Butler’s jumper at the buzzer won the game for the Bulls.
Just a couple days ago we wrote about Randy Foye hitting a game-winning buzzer beater to lift the Brooklyn Nets to victory. Last night, Chicago Bulls wing Jimmy Butler turned the tables on the Nets, connecting at the buzzer to lift the Bulls to a win over the Nets.
The first 24 minutes were fairly non-descript for Butler, who was having an off-night shooting the ball, making just 5 of 15 shots before the break.
Butler went wild in the second half, connecting on 9 of his 14 attempts for 27 points, tying his season-high of 40 points and more importantly, playing hero at the end.
The star wing re-entered the game with 4:24 left in the fourth quarter and scored or assisted on all of the Bulls final 13 points.
With the game tied at 99, Butler received the inbound with 12 seconds left on the clock steps inside of midcourt. Guarded by Bojan Bogdanovic, he took a few dribbles to probe the defense and allow seconds to tick off of the clock.
With three seconds to go he crossed over from right to left, got himself to just beyond the free throw line, used a stepback to create space on Bogdanovic and casually sunk the game-winning jumper as the final horn sounded.
Here’s the play:
Dwyane Wade played second-fiddle with 16 points for Chicago while Brook Lopez poured in 33 points in a losing effort for the Nets, while former D-Leaguer Sean Kilpatrick continued his fine season with 18 points on 6-14 from the field.
