The Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed to acquire Kyle Korver from the Hawks.
The Cleveland Cavaliers and Atlanta Hawks are finalizing a deal that will send 3-point specialist Kyle Kover to the Cavs.
The Hawks will receive Mike Dunleavy Jr. and a 2019 1st round pick.
As a bit of housekeeping, Cleveland also made a separate deal with the Portland Trailblazers, sending their 2017 first round pick to the Blazers in exchange for Portland returning Cleveland’s 2018 1st round pick.
There may actually be a bit more to the original trade as well, as the Hawks are looking for a third team that may be interested in taking Dunleavy.
Korver seems tailor-made to thrive with the Cleveland Cavaliers. For year’s he’s been one of the league’s more dangerous outside shooters and that level of threat from the outside is going to help LeBron and Kyrie attack the basket without the fear of help defenders.
On the other hand, should a defender be silly enough to help off of Korver, he’s going to make them pay for it by knocking down a three.
The 35-year-old Korver fills the outside shooting void left in the lineup when J.R. Smith went down with an injury a couple weeks ago. Smith is out for 10-14 weeks following thumb surgery.
The 14-year veteran who broke into the NBA as a second-round pick of the Philadelphia 76ers is playing 27.9 minutes a game this season, averaging 9.5 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists a contest, while shooting almost 41% from the outside.
Once this is final, the Hawks will turn their attention to finding a deal for power forward Paul Millsap.
