Clarkson and D’Angelo Russell give the team solid building blocks for the future.
The Los Angeles Lakers have re-signed restricted free agent Jordan Clarkson.
The combo guard has received a four-year, $50 million deal. This might be the best contract of the day so far.
Originally picked #46 overall during the 2014 NBA Draft, Clarkson has been one of the lone bright spots for the Lakers over the past couple of seasons.
The 24-year-old moved from playing point guard as a rookie to more of a combo guard role while playing with D’Angelo Russell last season. He responded with the best season of his short career averaging 15.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.1 steals.
Clarkson was also very reliable for the Lakers, suiting up for 79 games, while playing a team-leading 32.3 minutes a game.
Because they extended a qualifying offer to Clarkson on Tuesday, the Lakers had the right to match any offer the young guard would have received on the open market. The Lakers also made qualifying offers to Tarik Black and Marcelo Huertas.
The Lakers have also signed center Timofey Mozgov away from the Cavaliers today.
