Timofey Mozgov brings toughness to a young Lakers team.
The Los Angeles Lakers have reached an agreement with free agent center Timofey Mozgov.
Mozgov receives a 4-year contract worth $64 million.
Alrighty… We were all expecting crazy deals during this year’s free agency period because of the new TV deal and this is almost certainly the first of many to come.
The 29-year-old center averaged 6.3 points and 4.4 rebounds in 17.4 minutes a game for the Cleveland Cavaliers last season.
Once again, he received a contract that will pay him an average of 16 million dollars a year.
Mozgov was better in 2014-2015, a season which saw him post per-36 averages of 15.2 points, 10 rebounds and 1.8 blocks a night.
Still, it seems like the NBA is moving away from players like Mozgov whose inability to shoot the ball clogs the lane and hurts spacing.
This feels a lot like the Roy Hibbert signing all over again, only Hibbert was younger and made 500K less.
It’s a good time to be an NBA free agent.
