Lamonte Bearden transferring out of Buffalo

Lamonte Bearden will look to catch on with a top program.

Remember not too long ago when the Buffalo program seemed to be on the rise, lead by a talented coach in Bobby Hurley and young guard Lamonte Bearden?

Well… Those days are officially over.

Point guard Lamonte Bearden announced this week that he’s transferring out of the Buffalo Bulls program.

This comes about five months after Bearden was indefinitely suspended for conduct detrimental to the team.

The Buffalo Athletic Department issued the following statement on Wednesday morning:

“I spoke with Lamonte Bearden last week about his basketball future and he thought it would be in his best interest to transfer,” head coach Nate Oats said in a statement. “Even though I am disappointed in his decision, I want him to be at peace with where he is at. He has been given his release to pursue other options.”

“As we have done since we’ve been here, we will move on and continue to win at a high level. We are truly excited about the players we have here and the upcoming season.”

Due to NCAA transfer rules, the guard will be forced the sit out the 2016-2017 season.  He should be one of the hottest names available when it comes to available transfer candidates.

The 4-star recruit landed at Buffalo in large part due to the presence of Hurley as coach.  He posted 8.3 points and 4.4 assists as a freshman then 13.7 points and 4.2 assists as a sophomore following Bobby Hurley’s departure.

ESPN’s Jeff Goodman tweeted out recently that the potential transfer list Bearden gave to Buffalo included Arizona, Iowa State, Marquette, Miami, Nevada, TCU, Texas A&M and Wisconsin.

Beginning in the 2017-2018 season, Beardon will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
