Tony Snell gives the Bucks more another player to stretch the floor.
The Milwaukee Bucks have traded point guard Michael Carter-Williams to the Chicago Bulls for shooting guard Tony Snell.
MCW was informed of the trade late last night.
It’s no secret that Carter-Williams had been on the trading block for quite some time, as Giannis Antetokounmpo had taken over ball-handling duties with the Bucks.
Carter-Williams pairs poorly with Antetokounmpo due to his poor outside shooting.
A while back, there was talk of an MCW / Ben McLemore trade, but nothing ended up happening there.
The 2014 NBA Rookie of the Year has seen his scoring average drop each year his been in the NBA. From 16.7 as a rookie, to 14.6 in 2014-2015, to just 11.5 with the Bucks last season.
In order for Carter-Williams to be successful, he needs the ball in his hands a lot and you need to surround the career 25% outside shooter with a number of three-point threats.
Snell was part of the same draft class as MCW, but hasn’t faired quite as well during his time as a pro. Still, he fits into a team much easier than Carter-Williams does.
Last season Snell played 20.3 minutes a night for the Bulls, averaging 5.3 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1 assist a game while shooting 36% from the outside.
It’s likely Snell’s outside shooting and high-level perimeter defense that appealed to Milwaukee.
He will likely slot in behind starter Rashad Vaughn at shooting guard.
