Here’s the list of the starters for the 2016 All-Star Game that we posted last week.
EASTERN CONFERENCE | WESTERN CONFERENCE |
Paul Millsap (Atlanta) Chris Bosh (Miami) Andre Drummond (Detroit) Jimmy Butler (Chicago) John Wall (Washington) Isaiah Thomas (Boston)
DeMar DeRozan (Toronto) |
Draymond Green (Golden State) Anthony Davis (New Orleans) DeMarcus Cousins (Sacramento) LaMarcus Aldridge (San Antonio) Chris Paul (LA Clippers) Klay Thompson (Golden State)
James Harden (Houston) |
So who missed out?
Western Conference:
- Blake Griffin would have been a lock had he not punched a friend and broke his hand.
- Damian Lillard is probably the biggest omission, but that’s not to say the wrong choice was made. He suffers from being in the West were talented guard are all over the place. In the East, he’s probably an All-Star.
- Dirk Nowitzki can still score the basketball but his numbers are down across the board.
- Tim Duncan needs to be on this list if Kobe is. We all know this is likely his last season, but Duncan suffers from not officially making the announcement. Kobe got a huge amount of votes as a thank you, Duncan would have been in the same boat.
Eastern Conference:
- Pau Gasol is the biggest omission in my mind. I think people are overlooking the sensational bounce back year he’s having in Chicago.
- The Cavs duo of Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving are the next biggest names to not making the All-Star Game. Love has put up good numbers, but isn’t an efficient player and Irving missed too much of the season to be seriously considered.
- The Nets have been awful and maybe that’s reason enough not to look their way, but Brook Lopez is having a nice season for a terrible team (19.6 ppg, 8.4 rpg and 1.9 bpg). For him to make it, Millsap would probably have to lose his spot. Flip a coin between the two and you can make an argument for either side.
