On Monday, Baseball America issued its list of the top 100 prospects in baseball. Here are a few key takeaways:
- Ronald Acuna came in at #1 on Baseball America’s list.
The top prospect in baseball is Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna. In 54 games in AAA last year he hit .344/.393/.488 with 9 HRs and 14 2Bs. Don’t expect the 19-year old phenom to crack the Braves Opening Day lineup in 2018, but he is poised to make a big splash at the Major League level very soon.
- Arguably the most talked about player of this offseason, Shohei Ohtani, is listed as the #2 prospect in the game.
- Soon to be Hall-of-Famer Vladimir Guerrero’s son, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., sits third on the list. The Blue Jays prospect is a long way from the bigs, having only played in High-A this year, but certainly is a kid to keep your eye on.
- Player I am most excited to see hit an MLB roster: #8 prospect Gleyber Torres. He is currently listed as the Yankees’ backup second baseman, but don’t be surprised if that changes by the end of Spring Training as there was discussion of him being in the Bronx back at the start the 2017 season. Between Torres and Gregorius, The Baby Bombers look to have the next seven years or so of their middle infield set in stone.
- The Braves have 8 players in the top 100.
- The much talked about White Sox system has 5 top 100 prospects.
- The Cubs and Royals have ZERO players on this list.
