Official: Zlatan to LA Galaxy

Zlatan’s move is now official.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is reportedly on his way to MLS and the LA Galaxy. The 36-year-old Swede known for his larger-than-life personality has agreed to a two-year TAM deal with the Galaxy that will pay him $1.5M/yr.

Zlatan for $1.5M/yr is a steal for the Galaxy, as he certainly could have still gone elsewhere for more money. After scoring 17 goals in the Premier League last season, Zlatan has struggled to recover from an ACL tear that he suffered in April and has failed to add his name to the scoresheet in his first 5 appearances of the Premier League season.

Zlatan may struggle in MLS as well, considering the league’s grueling travel demands, physicality, and higher pace of play. He still has technical ability and physical strength though, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to still see him produce for a bit against the weaker defenses of MLS.

It’s a matter of “when” not “if” for Zlatan’s age catching up to him though if it hasn’t happened already. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to watch a global superstar like Zlatan in MLS.
