Orlando Magic Could Deal Tobias Harris

Reports have come out today that while the Orlando Magic aren’t actively shopping forward Tobias Harris, the team is more than willing to listen to offers for the talented scorer.

The 23-year-old combo forward is averaging 15.0 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.1 steals a game for the Magic this season.  Harris’s scoring is down slightly from previous seasons and his career high 36% 3-point shooting from last season has regressed to just 31% this season.

He is currently out of the line-up due to an ankle injury suffered Friday against the Clippers.  He missed Sunday’s game against the Hawks, but it doesn’t appear to be anything too serious.

“The ankle is just not good enough to be able to play on it,” he said about an hour before tipoff. “Obviously, I can play through some type of discomfort, but it’s just not feeling right.”

The Magic have a rematch against Atlanta tonight.

In his absence, Evan Fournier is seeing more time at small forward and responded with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals in the Magic’s win over the Hawks.

To me, Harris has always felt like a guy who puts up strong numbers on bad teams, so it may be wise for the Magic to sell high here.

Complicating matters is the new contract Harris signed this past summer, extending him for an additional 4 years for a total of $64 million.   Cap inflation or not, $16 or $17 million dollars is a lot to pay for a 3rd of 4th piece on a contending team.
