Overwatch is a team-based multiplayer first-person shooter video game developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment. It was released in May 2016 forMicrosoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
Overwatch is Blizzard’s fourth major franchise and came about following the 2014 cancellation of the ambitious massively multiplayer online role-playing gameTitan. A portion of the Titan team came up with the concept of Overwatch, based on the success of team-based first-person shooters like Team Fortress 2 and the growing popularity of multiplayer online battle arenas, creating a hero-based shooter that emphasized teamwork. Some elements ofOverwatch borrow assets and concepts from the canceled Titan project.
Being a new game that is only a few months old, there have been constant updates to the game. The developers constantly keep in communication with the community and relay their thoughts on the development process.
In the 2016 Year review, Jeff Kaplan detailed how the developers were looking to create new events for the Overwatch Community. There are some traditional holidays, but there are also a few off the track seasonal events being planned for the community.
On 19th January, Overwatch teased their upcomingYear of the Rooster event. The Year of the rooster coincides with the Chinese New Year event dates. This is Blizzardś first event in 2017.
The first references to this event were brought out in an official Blizzard Thread. The thread posted by BattleNet user Daddy was a feedback post on the unpopularity of Meiś legendary skin released in December.
In a reply, the developers stated how their thoughts of a cool skin were much different from what the community considers to be a good skin.
¨Hi there. Sorry, you are disappointed with Mei’s winter skin. We don’t have a specific rule for what makes something Legendary or Epic. We just sort of make a gut call based off of what we think is cool. Coolness is very subjective and based off of the community reaction it seems like our gauge was off on this one. Our reasoning for it being Legendary was that we completely redid the visual effects for Cryo-Freeze (we turned the ice block into a snowman). We thought that was pretty special and we had done it specifically based on community suggestions from months ago when people were speculating that we might have a winter event. Apparently, lots of people don’t agree with us and that’s ok. It’s all good feedback and we’re learning something for future events.
For people concerned that Mei is not going to get another Legendary for a long time, you need not worry. We have something pretty awesome for her early next year.
Apologies that our ´cool meter ´ was off from yours on this one. We’ll try to align better with future content.¨
Blizzardś next event will go live on January 24, 2017. It will see a new legendary skin for Overwatch Character Mei.

The event will also see a new skin for D´va. The new skin was teased on the Korean Overwatch Twitter. The new skin is a tribute to the Korean roots for the Character as can be seen in her avatar without her mech.
It is a Chinese themed skin which portrays her using a hand-fan Do you like the initial impressions of the skin? Or did you expected something more out of it?
