Ramon Ramirez Killed In Motorcycle Accident

Heartbreaking news from MASN’s Roch Kubatko, he’s reporting that Ramon Ramirez, a minor leaguer in Baltimore’s farm system, died Saturday as a result of a motorcycle crash.

Ramirez reportedly struck another car while driving his motorcycle while on his way home from a softball game in La Romana.

The club is still gathering information on the accident, which occurred as Ramirez was leaving a softball game. His friends were arranging a farewell party before his return to the United States.

Ramirez’s girlfriend was riding on the back of the motorcycle and survived the crash, having sustained a broken leg.

The Orioles signed Ramirez as a non-drafted free agent in July 2014, he hit .286 last season with 14 RBIs and 32 games with the Dominican Summer League team.

This statement was issued by Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette issued the following statement on Ramirez’s death:

“Our entire organization is deeply saddened by the sudden and tragic death of Ramon Ramirez. As a member of the Orioles organization, Ramon worked tirelessly to make the most of his opportunity to play professional baseball. Our thoughts are with his family, friends, teammates and coaches as we mourn this unimaginable loss.”

Ramon Ramirez was 23 years old.

This is the second minor leaguer to be killed in the Dominican, in a motorcycle crash, over the last week, as Astros 20-year-old pitcher Jose Rosario also lost his life in a terrible accident.
