You wouldn’t expect a late December game between the Brooklyn Nets and the Charlotte Hornets to be one of the most fun games of the year so far, but it was. Thanks, in part, to the heroics of Randy Foye.
Coming into the game with just 7 wins on the season, the Nets weren’t expected to put up much of a fight tonight.
Especially, after point guard Jeremy Lin hurt himself, once again, in the third period.
Lin and shooting guard Sean Kilpatrick combined for 25 points in the first half, while forward Trevor Booker pulled down 10 rebounds before halftime.
With numbers like those, you would expect the Nets to hold a large halftime lead.
Not when they gave up 40 points in the first quarter.
After three, the Hornets led the Nets 88-83.
After a pair of three-point plays by Brook Lopez, the Nets and Hornets were knotted at 98.
With just over 30 seconds to play, a Nicolas Batum three-pointer cut the Nets lead to 117-116. On the next possession, Bojan Bogdanovic missed a three.
On the other end, Cody Zeller converted a put-back to give the Hornets a 118-117 lead.
On the final possession with 2.3 seconds on the clock, Randy Foye caught the ball past the three-point line, took a dribble and then nailed a three-pointer as the clock expired to give the Nets a 120-118 win.
Bogdanovic led the Nets with 26 points, while Kilpatrick added 23 and Brook Lopez added 21.
Batum led the Hornets with 24 points while Jeremy Lamb chipped in 17 and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist added 12 points and 10 rebounds.
