Thaddeus Young moves from the Nets to the Pacers
The Brooklyn Nets have traded forward Thaddeus Young to the Indiana Pacers.
In exchange, the Nets receive the #20 pick in the first round as well as a future second-round pick.
The Nets have been looking to deal Young for days in order to get back into the first-round of the draft as their own selection belongs to the Boston Celtics due to a disastrous trade that brought Paul Pierce to the Nets in 2013.
Thaddeus Young, a 28-year-old power forward averaged 15.1 points, 9.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.5 steals in 33 minutes a game for the Nets last season.
While it’s understandable that the Nets would be looking to get back into the first round, it’s tough to move Young as he’s one of the few true NBA players on the roster right now. It’s going to be difficult for them to rebuild as the Celtics own the right to swap first round picks in 2017 with the Nets in 2017 and own the Nets’ first round pick outright in 2018.
So while the urge to acquire a pick is certainly strong, it’s hard to believe that they’ll get more from the #20 pick in a weak draft than they would have from Young.
