Tim Frazier has been traded to the Washington Wizards.
The New Orleans Pelicans have traded point guard Tim Frazier to the Washington Wizards.
In return, the Wizards receive the #52 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.
New Orleans enters the draft without a first-round pick due to the DeMarcus Cousins trade. This move gives the team another shot in the second round as they already own the #40 overall selection.
A former undrafted free agent out of Penn State, Frazier played in 65 games with the Pelicans during the 2016-2017 season, including 35 starts.
The 26-year-old averaged 7.1 points, 5.2 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 0.9 steals in 23.5 minutes a night. A consummate floor general, Frazier does struggle a bit with his shooting, connecting on just 40% of his shots from the field last season and 31% from 3-point range.
Frazier has one year remaining on his contract and will be paid $2 million this season before hitting free agency next summer.
This move is a bit curious in that it leaves the Pelicans without a point guard under contract for next season. Last year’s starter, Jrue Holiday, is currently a free agent.
In Washington, Frazier will slide into the backup point guard spot behind All-Star John Wall.
This move leaves the Wizards without a pick in this year’s draft. They traded their first-round pick to Brooklyn in the Bojan Bogdanović deal.
