USA vs. Mexico Post-Match Ratings and Reaction

In one of the world’s great international rivalries, the USA beat Mexico 1-0 on Tuesday night in Nashville behind a Tyler Adams goal, which was his first goal for the US. The US started slow and were constantly tested by Mexico’s Diego Lainez, among others. The US CB pairing of Matt Miazga and Cameron Carter-Vickers held their ground to combat the poor play of fullbacks Shaq Moore and Eric Lichaj, and the teams went to the half scoreless.

The US started to gain some momentum in the second half, and match really changed when Angel Zaldivar was sent off for a bad challenge on Wil Trapp, leaving Mexico with 10 men in the 67th minute. This came just minutes after a confrontation between Matt Miazga and Mexican attacker Diego Lainez, who fouled Miazga after losing a duel.

Now up a man, the US took control, and a great cross by fullback Antonee Robinson was put away by Adams in the 71st minute. The US held on for the 1-0 win.
