Vikings / Adrian Peterson agree to new deal

It’s funny how often a little money can make everything better in the sports world.

Last season, Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was suspended for 15 games due to a domestic abuse issue (he hit his child).  Peterson went on to talk about how he didn’t want to play in Minnesota anymore and would prefer to be waived or traded.

But the Vikings never seriously entertained getting rid of arguable the best running back in football.

Now… Everything seems fine between the two parties.  Peterson and the Vikings have come to an agreement to restructure the final three seasons of his contract.  While no details have been released, we can assume that it’s a win-win for both sides, making it much more likely that a Vikings uniform is the only one Peterson wears during his career.

G.M. Rick Spielman had this to say:

“This agreement is a win for both Adrian and the Vikings and is a positive step toward Adrian finishing his career as a Minnesota Viking.  As we have consistently said, Adrian is a valuable part of the Vikings organization and we look forward to his return to the field.â€

The team also released a statement from Peterson:

“I appreciate the Vikings for working together on this restructured contract, which provides additional security for me but also allows opportunities for me to further prove my value to the team and within the NFL. It was important for me to continue my career in Minnesota, and I cannot wait to get on the field in front of Vikings fans again.â€

I’d guess that Peterson gets more financial security in the form of guaranteed money.
