Quarterbacks:
Jared Goff has taken a step up this season.
Jared Goff (Los Angeles Rams)- Goff has had two great performances so far this season and is worth investing in. Goff may have been picked up after week one in your league but if he hasn’t and you don’t own an elite quarterback he is worth picking up. I heavily doubt Goff will have a sophomore slump since he is surrounded by an offensive-savvy coach, great weapons (unlike last year), and an improved offensive line. Go after Goff and don’t worry about the stigma that he was a bust in his rookie year (lots of people are).
Deshaun Watson (Houston Texans)- Watson put up a great performance and nearly beat a Bill Belichick coached team in Foxborough. I have thought for a while that Watson is the best rookie quarterback and he is proving me to be true so far. Watson has two good matchups within the next three weeks facing the mediocre Tennessee secondary in week four and Cleveland in week six. Watson could be a steal on the waiver wire and he is worth investing FAAB money in if you lack confidence in your quarterback situation.
Brian Hoyer (San Francisco 49ers)- Hoyer started out the season fairly rough but he put up a great performance against a talented Rams defense. I don’t view Hoyer as someone that can become a weekly fantasy starter for your team but he has some favorable matchup coming up against Indianapolis and he is worth a look if you stream quarterbacks or play DFS.
Blake Bortles (Jacksonville Jaguars)- Bortles had his best performance in a long time against Baltimore across the pond. I would not recommend putting FAAB money into Bortles but he has a pretty good matchup this upcoming week against the Jets and is worth a look if you stream quarterbacks.
Running Backs:
Chris Thompson (Washington Redskins)- Thompson has been a major threat in the Washington passing and running games so far this season and he looks like a major steal for the teams that drafted him. There is a very good chance that Thompson is not available in your league but if he somehow finds a way to get him on waivers as Rob Kelley is banged up.
Chris Carson (Seattle Seahawks)- Carson is looking more and more like the lead back in Seattle as the season wears on. Carson has been pretty good in all three games so far this season despite poor offensive line play and he got a fair number of carries in week three. I would recommend spending a significant amount of FAAB money or using your waiver priority if he somehow has not been picked up in your league.
Jamaal Charles (Denver Broncos)- Charles has had back to back good performances and he even found his way to the end zone. I doubt Charles becomes as good with Denver as he was in Kansas City but there is no reason to believe why he couldn’t become a reliable flex option in your lineup as long as he stays healthy. I would target Charles on the waiver wire this week, he is a fairly safe option that can contribute on a weekly basis.
D’Onta Foreman (Houston Texans)- Foreman was a great running back in college and I really liked him as a mid-round target in the NFL draft. Foreman brings something to the Houston backfield that Lamar Miller doesn’t and that is power. I think he will be used more than people realize in short yardage and I love the potential that he brings to fantasy owners as he should have more carries as he gains more experience in the NFL.
Alvin Kamara (New Orleans Saints)- Kamara is a shifty back who has the potential to beat out the veteran running backs in New Orleans. I love the high-powered offense that Kamara plays in and think he has the potential to be a quietly good fantasy option while opposing defensive coordinators are turning their focus to Drew Brees. Kamara can contribute in both the passing and running games and is a solid option for Drew Brees to throw to and hand off to.
Wide Receivers:
Sterling Shepard (New York Giants)- I love the potential that Shepard brings to fantasy owners now that the Giants offense is finally clicking on some level. The two big storylines from that game are the bizarre dog celebration that he had after scoring in the red zone and the clutch field goal to win the game from the Eagles rookie kicker Jake Elliott. Quietly ignored in all that noise is the solid performance from Sterling Shepard who had over 100 yards and looks like he could be the number two target in New York behind Odell as the season goes on. I recommend taking a look at Shepard no matter what your situation is at wide receiver.
Geronimo Allison (Green Bay Packers)- Remember last week when I told you to target Allison if the Packers receiving corps is banged up? Allison had a great performance despite the fact that Green Bay was without Randall Cobb and he even made the key play of the game in overtime. Allison is still a sleeper to target on the waiver wire and I would go after him if you want to save money by not targeting Sterling Shepard but still want a receiver with upside.
Chris Hogan (New England Patriots)- Hogan had another great performance and I love the potential that he brings from having Tom Brady throwing to him. Hogan has the potential to be a great deep threat in New England and I would use some FAAB money on him.
Robert Woods (Los Angeles Rams)- Woods was a decent player in Buffalo and I think he had the potential to have more targets in the upcoming weeks as Sammy Watkins is facing some injury concerns. I would target Woods in PPR leagues especially since he was already getting a fair amount of targets and now he has the potential to get even more with Watkins injury.
