John Ross has made the decision to leave school for the NFL.
Washington wide receiver John Ross has announced his intention to declare for the 2017 NFL Draft.
Even with two knee surgeries in his past, including an operation that cost him the 2015 season, Ross returned in 2016 to have one of the best seasons ever by a Huskie wideout.
One of the fastest players in the country, Ross was electric this season en route to his 81 catches for 1,150 yards and 17 touchdowns. He also adds value as an exceptional return man.
“Like I’ve said, I’m just blessed to be here,” Ross told The Times after the Huskies’ loss to Alabama in the CFP semifinal Saturday night. “Just going back to last year, I wasn’t even walking (after two knee surgeries). So I’m thankful for anything. Either way it goes, I’m a win-win situation.”
Ross earned a first-team All-American spot from ESPN, the AP named him the Pac-12’s offensive player of the year and he was the Huskies most valuable player on offense.
One of the things that stands out about Ross is his dedication to his craft.
“I can’t be a guy out there running fast and catching passes,” he said in August. “I’ve got to learn how to be a receiver. And to be honest, I’m nowhere close to where I need to be with that.”
The 5-11, 190-pound Ross is ranked as the #2 wide receiver in the junior class by NFL Draft Scout.
WalterFootball.com currently has Ross projected to be selected with the #32 pick in the first round by the Dallas Cowboys.
Ross may just be the tip of the iceberg Washington players heading to the NFL as Budda Baker, Sidney Jones, Elijah Qualls and Vita Vea are all reportedly leaning towards turning professional.
