Russell Westbrook looks like this season’s MVP.
Last night Oklahoma City Thunder Superstar Russell Westbrook bested his mark of last seasons 19 triple-doubles, and we’re not even through the halfway point of the season. His hot 2nd half propelled his Oklahoma City Thunder(25-17) past the Sacramento Kings (16-24).A triple-double is impressive by itself but what’s just as impressive was Westbrook’s play in the second half, scoring 25 points 7 rebounds and 4 assists finishing the game with 36 points 11 rebounds and 10 assists.
“Russell’s second half was phenomenal. He was really efficient scoring and passing,” Donovan said.
The game almost came down to the wire if not for the Thunders tight D in the closing minutes. With 2:04 left the King’s had erased a 12-point deficit and with 26.5 left on the clock the Sacramento was within three 116-113 thanks to a 3 by DeMarcus Cousins.
“We played really well on defense outside of the final minute and a half of the fourth quarter,” Donovan said. “We allowed 39 points in the fourth quarter. We were fortunate we won. The things we did at the end of the game will get you beat.”
DeMarcus Cousins finished with his typical double-double: 31 points and 11 rebounds, Rudy Gay adding 22 and Darren Collison finishing with 21 points. The Kings continue to be in complete tailspin-mode dropping their last 2 games and have lost 5 of their last 6.Turnovers seem to be a glaring issue with the team committing 22 last night and 21 on Friday night against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
“I didn’t think we had a lot of momentum,” Kings coach Dave Joerger said. “At the end of the day, I can yell about referees and this and that, but we had 15 turnovers at halftime. It doesn’t have to do with anything else.”
The Thunder are visiting the Los Angeles Clippers tonight, followed by a tough road trip against Golden State and Utah this week, while Sacramento hosts the Pacers on Wednesday night.
